Nintendo has once again uploaded some games to the Wii Shop Channel today, but this week includes a Virtual Console game and WiiWare games, the first time both types of games have been uploaded on the same day.
Nintendo last Monday took a break from its Virtual Console update to launch the WiiWare exclusively.
The Virtual Console sees just one new game today: SKYKID, which originally appeared on the NES. Available for 500 Wii Points, the side-scrolling game follows the tale of Red Baron as he battles in the sky with his rival, Blue Max. Using moves like the loop-the-loops, players can shoot down enemies from behind, or fly low to pick up bombs and drop them on command posts, warships or other designated targets. Enemy fire will cause players to crash, as expected — unless they’re able to recover by rapidly pressing buttons.
WiiWare gets two new games today: Critter Round-Up and Star Soldier R. In Critter Round-Up, which supports up to four players and costs 1,000 Wii Points, the critters have escaped and the barnyard is in chaos, so it’s up to the player to quickly corral the animals and repair the fences in this puzzle-action game. More than 50 levels take players to exotic locations including the Outback and the icy Arctic. The game also includes a series of mini games: Snowball Soccer, Predator Rampage, Chicken Catch and Fence Trap.
Star Soldier R, a single-player games from Hudson that costs 800 Wii Points, players aim for the best scores within a two- or five-minute time limit as they use their Caesar starfighter to shoot down countless enemies from the mysterious Brain Forces. The ship can be upgraded with power-ups hidden throughout the levels, while high scores can be uploaded via Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection.
