The atmosphere come race time is always one to savour at the Cheltenham festival. The racing is competitive as ever however there does seem to be a short list of horses who go in as banker material. Those being Buveur D’Air in the Champion Hurdle, Apple’s Jade in the Mares Hurdle, Footpad in the Arkle and finally Samcro in the Ballymore. The latest Cheltenham festival betting has all four as very short priced favourites and if all perform as they have earlier on in the season they are likely to take all the beating.
Footpad placed in the 2017 Champion Hurdle so has strong festival form but it is his jumping that looks to be his greatest asset over fences and he has been faultless all season. His trainer Willie Mullins has been quoted in saying he is the best jumping novice chaser he has ever had which is incredible in itself looking at horses such as Vautour who have been through the ranks.
