Before the first regular-season snap even took place, NFL pundits expected today’s Cleveland Browns vs Tennessee Titans game would mark Johnny Manziel’s debut as the Browns’ starting quarterback. Week 5 was always the magic date. QB Brian Hoyer obviously had other plans, and he’s largely delivered on them through three games, meaning he’ll get the start once again as you watch today’s Browns vs Titans game.
Cleveland’s coming off a bye week, so Hoyer may have some rust today as the Browns travel to Tennessee. Still, he’s performed better than people predicted. Hoyer hasn’t thrown an interception in 95 throws this season, and he’s led the offense to score 21 or more points in each game. In the season opener, he almost led Cleveland to a comeback win against the Steelers after being down 24 at the half.
Now it’s the Browns ground game that’s really saved the day. Ranked ninth in the NFL with 132.7 yards per game, the Browns running attack is anchored by Terrance West, who has 204 yards and a 4.3 average, and Isaiah Crowell, who has 141 yards and a 5.2-yard average.
The Tennessee Titans can find some solace in the game taking place at LP Field. Cleveland hasn’t won a road game since Sept. 22, 2013, and in fact they’ve dropped 18 of their past 20 away from home.
They’ll also have quarterback Jake Locker back today after missing last Sunday with a wrist injury. In his first three games Locker has passed for 683 yards and 3 TDs. Having him back in the lineup for today’s Browns game could be a boost to the Titans’ chances. Tennessee’s currently just a 0.6-point favorite at home.
