The LA Clippers head into tonight’s Game 7 against the Golden State Warriors looking to close out several things. Top on the list is winning their first-round playoff series and sending the Warriors home empty handed. Right below that is a desire to leave behind all the drama of owner Donald Sterling, whose allegedly racist comments surfaced during the Warriors – Clippers series. Playing at the Staples Center, the Clippers are sure to be riding on emotions tonight. If you can’t catch tonight’s Warriors – Clippers game on TNT, you should try to watch Warriors Clippers live Game 7 free online in various ways.
Game 6 was an ugly affair by most accounts, the lone bright spot (for Golden State fans) being the Warriors’s 100-99 victory to force tonight’s Game 7. After taking just 10 shots in Game 5, Warriors All-Star Stephen Curry shot 17 times in the first half on Thursday, but he only seven attempts, and the Warriors as a team shot just 32.7% for the half. By the time the game was over, both teams had shot below 40% and had struggled with foul trouble.
Curry was the only Game 6 scorer with more than 20 points, but he needed two dozen shots to get 24 points. Clippers All-Star Blake Griffin, the team’s leading scorer during the regular season with a 24.1 PPG average, scored 17 points but also needed 24 shots to do it. Griffin, J.J. Redick and Golden State’s David Lee all fouled out.
Tonight’s Clippers Warriors Game 7 is bound to be better, if for no other reason than it can’t get much worse. That’s particularly true for the LA Clippers.
Golden State won on Thursday in large part because Draymond Green — who’s not a household name outside the Bay Area, and perhaps not even within it — had 14 points, 14 rebounds, four assists and five steals to go with his lock-down defense on Griffin.
All-Star Chris Paul is also slated to improve, as his playoff series averages have dropped almost across the board. Paul’s points per game have gone from 19.1 to 16.7, his average assists per game have dropped from 10.7 to 8.2, and his turnovers have increased from 2.3 to 3.8 per game. His rebounds have gone up by 0.7, as have his steals (0.5), but those hardly compensate for his Warriors series struggles.
In tonight’s Clippers game, look for both Griffin and Paul to have “slump-buster” type performances. They and the rest of the Clippers playing to advance past the first round of the NBA playoffs, and they’re looking to advance past the drama of this week’s lifetime ban for Clippers owner Donald Sterling. If they move into Round 2, the Clippers will surely be able to shake those thoughts about sitting out playoff games in protest of Sterling’s alleged racist remarks, as they considered in Game 5.
