Nintendo’s Wii Shop Channel gets three new games today, as WiiWare sees the release of a new pirate-themed game while Virtual Console sees two old-school Sega Genesis games.
Pirates: The Key of Dreams (1-4 players, 1,000 Wii Points) hits WiiWare as a frantic nautical shoot-em-up in which players sail across the Caribbean with cannons blazing to loot booty, run blockades and battle Blackbeard himself. Player take control of a navy captain sent deep undercover as a ruthless pirate to seek and retrieve the Key of Dreams, a valuable and dangerous cursed artifact. Players will rescue castaways to bolster their ship’s crew while upgrading a host of skills and collecting increasingly powerful weapons (rockets, mines, chain shot, saw blades and a flamethrower). Multiplayer support includes AI bots as well as support for four-player human matches. All told, the game includes more than 35 levels set in seven themed environments.
The two Sega Genesis games that appear on Wii Virtual Console today are Super Fantasy Zone (900 Wii Points), the last entry in the side-scrolling Fantasy Zone shooter series, and Gley Lancer (900 Wii Points), a side-scrolling shooter set in the year 2025 pitting humans against a hostile alien race.
